Wat Chedi Luang

Built in the fifteenth century and once the tallest structure in the Lanna kingdom, the great chedi of Wat Chedi Luang was partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1545 and left as a magnificent brick ruin.

It once housed the Emerald Buddha, now in Bangkok. Monks hold informal 'monk chats' in the grounds most afternoons.
